A Santa Barbara man was killed in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash on private property in Arroyo Grande Friday evening.

A California Highway Patrol (CHP) report states the man was driving a 2014 Polaris ATV on private property near Los Berros Road and Milton Street around 10:20 p.m. with a passenger. For an unknown reason, he allowed the vehicle to drift off the eastern edge of the private driveway.

The ATV went down an embankment and crashed head-on into a tree, causing the ATV to spin into a second tree.

The 36-year-old driver from Santa Barbara died on the scene and his identity has not yet been released pending next of kin notification. The passenger, 34-year-old Brian Bullough from Seal Beach, suffered major injuries and was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.

CHP is investigating the collision and has not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol are involved.

  1. I have known Nick since he was 6 years old. He was the biggest hearted, kindest human that you would ever want to meet. He did own the property with his mother and father. I was there the next day for his wedding. that did not happen. @ concerned, you are correct. The passenger got thrown free and is living. Part of the suspension wound up in the passenger seat. Unfortunately Nick’s head hit an oak tree. Thank goodness it was an instantaneous death. This tragedy has affected many people. @ 2:51, you sound like a fool.
