A main gas line ruptured in Solvang Wednesday morning causing an evacuation of nearby homes.

At 10:17 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to 1980 Old Mission Drive, behind the New Frontier Grocery Store, for a reported gas leak. They discovered workers had struck an underground gas main causing the leak.

County Sheriff Deputies and firefighters evacuated 30 people in the area and had approximately 25 people sheltering in place at the end of the dead-end street nearby.

Southern California Gas Company responded to shut off the gas and repair the leak.
