Parent Concerned about Notre Dame School Closure

By a Parent from Notre Dame School

I am a worried parent with kids at Notre Dame School. On 3/26 when the kids were going to school we noticed the school was vandalized. After parents posted on Facebook and other websites, it was bought to the parent’s attention that there were also threating flyers out there with Notre Dame written on them.

On 3/26 at 11:40 PM the principal sent out an email to parents letting them know school would be cancelled the next day due to new info. The email had no real details so that had the parents worried.
3/27 at 8:31 PM a new email was sent to the parents saying that they are aware of a flyer and both cases are being investigated but they have decided to cancel school till Monday.

3/28 at 12:40 an email was sent out to parents saying there would be a parent meeting and the Santa Barbara Police Department would be there to provide updates and answer questions.

At this meeting there was a Lieutenant from SBPD and he let us parents know that he was 100% sure that the police department knew who was making these flyers but they meant no harm from them and that just to be safe they would have 3 police officers at/around the school for morning drop-offs, lunch and dismissal for the next month. The Lieutenant also let us know that since no laws had been broken they could not arrest the person behind these flyers, but the person was told they are NOT allowed to be at the school or the church that is part of the school and if they did they would be arrested and charged with trespassing. Less than 12 hrs after this meeting, this man was arrested at the church.

3/29 at 11 AM KEYT reported this man went to the church that is part of the school and was detained. We parents did not hear anything from the school till 4:46 PM on 3/29 and the only update we received was this man was put on a mental hold and they would give us more updates as it’s released to them. We have heard nothing since.

This man has put our kids at risk and has continued to post threating messages on Facebook. He is trolling the police department and they have done nothing about him. The parents of the school have been worried about this daily and the school has not been sending updates or been helpful. The police department lied when they told us they would be at the school.  What should we parents do to make sure our kids are safe at school?

  1. Document everything if something happens you need to sue. Last I checked, threats, destroying property, loitering and harassment are crimes. What a bunch of BS. Post this guy or girl’s name for all to see (not the poster, the person engaging in the threatening and illegal behavior).

  2. UCSB cost 40,000 a year and they’re the only school in town that has had a mass shooting and several students run over by a psycho. So like yea, totally, the more you spend on education the safer you are. Not.

  3. If you go to the cost of attendance page of the UCSB website the total cost for an in-state student is 40,000. My point was that money doesn’t buy safety but obviously that was to hard for you to understand. Ps. The students that were shot and killed by idiot Rogers WERE UCSB students. Their parents paid mega bucks for their children to be “safe” and they are dead now. So what was your point again?

  4. This guy has also posted on facebook a story on how he was on a mental health hold for over a week and doesn’t understand why. Please do research and look up his page and see just how dangerous he is. How is this guy walking the streets ? He is talking about getting a lawyer to sue I believe the police department, which is a bunch of crap. This guy needs to be locked away for a long time.

  5. I wonder how much it costs for a year at Notre Dame. I went through Mt. Carmel School and I know it wasn’t expensive in those days because my Mom and Grandma couldn’t have afforded it if it was. Same for Santa Barbara Catholic High (now Bishop). Our high school was where Notre Dame is now.

  6. That cost includes food, living expenses either on or off campus, etc. Meaning, costs of living that would be incurred quite literally living anywhere, not necessarily associated with school. My point there was that this is *not* an expensive school, not that it really has anything to do with supposed safety (an agreement with you), and the shooting really had nothing to do with the school itself, but rather a perfect storm being in a location inhabited by many students of *both* colleges in the Santa Barbara area, as well as many other types of people and families. There were also 14 other people injured by him, who included people not from UCSB. why are you so rude and defensive?

  7. The fact that this guy now is following this thread says alot – he is obsessed, and doesn’t think he is doing anything wrong. That is problematic thinking and very concerning. Almost a touch of narcissism there – not realizing or wanting to realize he is the common denominator instead pointing the finger at everyone else. This is a very unstable and possibly dangerous human being and I truly hope nothing happens.

  8. This Post has over 3,000 views if even half of the people that read this call the school and the police department they will have to do something. Please call if you have time. We need to make sure ALL kids are safe.
