One person has died in a head-on vehicle collision on Highway 1 outside Lompoc Friday morning.

At 5:56 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters, CalStar helicopter, AMR ambulance, and California Highway Patrol (CHP), responded to Highway 1 for a traffic collision. The incident took place about 5 miles in from Highway 101.

Upon arrival, crews found a head-on collision involving two sedans. One sedan rolled off the road approximately 50 feet down with three occupants trapped inside. Major extrication was required to remove all the occupants of the vehicle. They all complained of major injuries and two were transported via helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, one via ground ambulance, reports Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni.

The single occupant of the sedan that remained on the roadway was declared dead on arrival. All victims are estimated to be in their 30’s, reports Zaniboni.

The roadway was completely blocked for a helicopter landing and removal of all victims.

CHP is the lead investigator of this incident.
