Olive Mill Bridge Rail Project Nears Completion

Source: Caltrans

A project to replace the bridge rails on the US Highway 101 Overcrossing at Olive Mill Road damaged during the Montecito flooding this past January is continuing with the installation of bridge rails on the western side of the bridge.  The installation of bridge rails on the eastern side of this bridge has already been completed.

Local traffic may detour by exiting northbound US 101 at San Ysidro Road to access coastal areas.  Northbound truck traffic on US 101 is encouraged to follow the signed ‘truck detour’ and use the Milpas Street exit before returning southbound before exiting at Spring Road.

One-way traffic on Olive Mill Road continues in a northerly direction towards Coast Village Road on the mountain side of US 101.   Residents along Danielson Lane will maintain parking, but it is prohibited near the narrow corners so residents and larger vehicles can better navigate the right turns in this area.

The traffic control on Danielson Road is expected to end by Dec. 7, weather permitting, when the sidewalk will re-open and Olive Mill returns to its full width for everyone.  The supporting falsework below the bridge on US 101 will be removed in early January.

In addition, A resurfacing of both lanes in each direction of US Highway 101 between Hermosillo Road and Evans Avenue will begin Monday night, Dec. 3.  Motorists can expect alternating lane closures in the following locations during the overnight hours:

The northbound No. 1 (left) lane of US 101 will be closed for grinding and paving on Monday, Dec. 3 and Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 8 pm until 6 am.

The southbound No. 1 (left) lane of US 101 will be closed for grinding and paving on Thursday, Dec. 6, Monday, Dec. 10 and Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 8 pm until 6 am.

The northbound No. 2 (right) lane of US 101 will be closed for grinding and paving on Wednesday, Dec. 12 and Thursday, Dec. 13 and Monday, Dec. 17 from 8 pm until 6 am.

The southbound No. 2 (right) lane of US 101 will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 18 and Thursday, Dec. 20 from 8 pm until 6 am.

The contractor for this $1.5 million project is Granite Construction of Santa Barbara, CA.

These projects will result in a safe environment following the Montecito debris flow earlier this year.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
