This is the third installment in our “Meet Your Mayoral Candidates” series. Every day this week we’ll be featuring information and a video interview from our five applicants vying to be the next Santa Barbara Mayor in alphabetical order, because Ed does not take sides. All past candidates can be seen here. Today, we’re featuring Angel Martinez, learn more about him below.
Angel graduated from UC Davis, where he was All-American in cross-country and track. Prior to being named the CEO of Deckers Outdoor Corporation in 2005, he served 21 years as the president and CEO of The Rockport Company, a subsidiary of Reebok. He left Deckers in 2016.
Angel currently serves on the boards of AHA! and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF).
The economic issues that plague downtown Santa Barbara are what inspired Angel to run for mayor. His desire to address transience and vacant storefronts are amongst his top priorities. He is also in favor of updating the police station and keeping taxes for citizens low.

I think I’d like to see Hal or bendy. They seem to actually care about SB and not looking only at how they can make it even more “touristy”and “urbanity” while also becoming the sanctuary capital of California like some of our other candidates.
Mr. Martinez’ sympathy and support of the horrendous Sanctuary City program negate any possible good he thinks he could do for the city. After Ms. Murillo, Mr. Martinez is the candidate to be feared.
