I believe that emotional and social well-being of children should be considered
alongside physical well-being – given that our school board is only looking at half the problem, they are only coming up with ineffective solutions.
Jackie Reid & Wendy Sims Moten admitted on a public school board meeting to hundreds listening that after 7 months they do not have a plan & they do not understand the proposed hybrid model.
Total lack of leadership.
The government stated over a month ago that science & data permits schools to reopen.
No action, no progress, no plan from our school board.
Those few teachers who are concerned should stay home. They are a minority. And the decision not to open is being based upon a few teachers with “personal concerns”.
Not taking into consideration the majority of teachers or the 12,000 students suffering emotionally and receiving a poor “education” since March of last year.
This decision to remain closed goes against the science & data. It goes against the majority of people’s wishes to see e a few hundred “concerned” teachers.
SBPHD stated 3 families can socialize in close proximity for 2 hours.
SBPHD stated cohorts of 16 is ok.
Newsom said all schools can open full time.
So why are the teachers fighting science and families and not Cari g about kids we’ll bring and education?
Why is it that these “concerned” teachers go shopping around numerous strangers regularly it go to dinner & drinks with others with no mask. If they are that concerned and that high risk, stay home. Get a doctors note for their condition.
SBLETSGETALONG – The teachers and parents opposing school re-openings are an extremely vocal minority. My sibling, my parent, and multiple close friends are all local teachers and we talk daily about this. Most teachers want to get back to the classroom as soon as possible. The zoom classes are inefficient and create problems in class where there didn’t use to be problems. There is an influential minority of teachers and parents that have apparently been successful in some districts (SBUSD for now) in pushing the open date back even further. The January start date is also contingent on us achieving the “Orange level,” so it’s not even a sure thing. We need to make our voices heard more than we are. The kids NEED in person teaching and the schools, SBUSD from personal knowledge, have FAILED to prepare adequately so they could be open next month. The teachers have NOT been working 60+ hours a week or all summer as some keep commenting. The preparation for zoom class is far easier and less time consuming than for a real class. I get that people are concerned about the risk, I am too. BUT, the risk isn’t going away and our kids need to get a proper education, not zoom. These same “concerned” teachers and parents are also out socializing and sending their kids to soccer camps. What’s happening to our kids’ education right now is awful. It’s time to get them back in class!
