Santa Barbara couple Carl and Joelle Lindros died in an airplane crash over Idaho on Sunday, reports the Lewiston Tribune.
The 83-year-old couple were confirmed to be onboard their Lancair IV flying from Montana to Sacramento when the plane crashed into Harris Ridge near the town of Kooskia around 10:40 a.m.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board report the plane caught fire and was destroyed upon impact.
Carl Lindros is well-known in Santa Barbara for serving on several educational and philanthropic boards.
Most recently he served as Treasurer. member of the Finance Committee, and founding member of the local nonprofit Get Focused, Stay Focused National Resource Center. The non-profit was formed in 2015 to assist schools in implementing the Get Focused, Stay Focused curriculum which is now in schools across the state of California.
“His generosity was unmatched,” said Get Focused, Stay Focused Board President Dawn O’Bar. “Those of us who worked closely with Carl knew him not only as a generous and active Board member, but as someone with the ability to get straight to the point and heart of every matter. He was a mentor, loyal and loving friend, trusted advisor and champion of students and their success. We will miss him greatly.”
Carl Lindros was also the former Board President of the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara.
“We were shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely deaths of Carl and Jo Lindros. Carl was a beloved and influential supporter of the Scholarship Foundation for more than five decades, serving on the organization’s Board of Directors from 1969 to 1986, and as Board president in 1985-86. A founding member of the Board’s Investment Committee, Carl was instrumental in building the Foundation’s endowment. Ever committed to the Scholarship Foundation, he was a member of our Investment Committee at the time of his death. This organization and the wider Santa Barbara Community have lost a generous and visionary leader,” said Victoria Juarez, President and CEO of the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara.
And very powerful and fast, 350 hp twin turbo, of which one has set multiple class speed records. Difficult to handle in turbulence and has no deicers so sounds like weather was an issue as the fire was originally called as a lightning strike.
