Candidates for the Board of Supervisor seat in the 1st District, Laura Capps and Das Williams, faced off in a debate moderated by Jerry Roberts this week.

This is the first of four debates for the candidates.

The candidates discussed their differences on the county’s cannabis ordinance and its impact on public schools, health, and trust in local government. They then shifted to public policy, climate change, homelessness, and housing among other topics.

  1. Uninformed voters are a cancer on democracy. I don’t mind political dynasties. In fact, if a family is raised and trained for a tradition of public service, they would be the best ones to help heal this country. I think it takes more than 2 generations of electeds to start calling a family a dynasty. Am proud to vote for someone that is not bought by the cannabis industry, and doesn’t hire their lobbyists as their chief of staff.

  2. OK so one debate down, a few more to go. So far what have we learned? Laura Capps wants money out of politics and is “a listener.” Das Williams is running on his past record. Neither candidate seems to have any concrete plans for improving the county. What are their ideas on homelessness, traffic congestion, wildfire prevention, taxes, pension liabilities, tourism, infrastructure, water, and so on?

  3. Nepotism is a cancer on democracy. We do not need any more political dynasties. New faces, new ideas and new blood are an absolute necessity to the health and well being of our community and our nation. Get a real job Laura, as in a non subsidized paycheck and one that contribute to the economic well being of the community in which you live.
