The identities of the two motorcyclists killed on Highway 101 this past Sunday, has been released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
On 10-15-17 at approximately 7:56 a.m., Raymond Lee Ryals, an 84-year-old Atascadero man, and his passenger Solrun Cammarta, a 77-year-old Thousand Oaks woman, were traveling southbound on Highway 101, just south of SR-154. They were traveling on a 2007 Honda Goldwing Trike at an unknown rate of speed. For unknown reasons, Ryals failed to safely negotiate curvature in the roadway, reports CHP.
The Goldwing Trike traveled in a south-easterly direction where the left side of the Trike struck the metal guard rail, fully ejecting both parties. Ryals impacted the metal guardrail and died at the scene as a result of the injuries. After being ejected, Cammarta impacted the asphalt roadway causing fatal injuries, reports CHP.

Two people were pronounced dead after a motorcycle collision on Highway 101 near the SR-154 interchange in Santa Ynez Valley on Sunday morning.
Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to Highway 101 southbound, approximately 1 mile south of the SR-154 interchange in Santa Ynez Valley, at 8:00 a.m. Unites found a 3-wheeled motorcycle with AMR ambulance attempting to determine the status of two patients, reports SBC Fire Public Information Officer Mike Eliason.
A male, approximately in his 50’s and presumed to be the driver, was thrown from the motorcycle and struck the center divider guardrail. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A female, also in her 50’s and presumed to be the passenger, was also thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the number one lane of Highway 101 and was struck by another vehicle. She was also pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passing vehicle was not injured, said Eliason.
The motorcycle came to rest upright approximately 100 yards from the riders. It is unknown if any other vehicles were involved in the initial collision of the motorcycle.
California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation of this collision and the identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
