Hikers Rescued from Tunnel Trail

Update by Search & Rescue (SBCSAR)

SBCSAR responded [Tuesday] afternoon for two hikers that became lost near the Rock Garden, above the City of Santa Barbara and adjacent to Tunnel Trail. The hikers had started from the top of Tunnel Trail on East Camino Cielo at about 9 in the morning. They proceeded down to the Tunnel connecter trail that then lead back up towards the Rock Garden Trail. These trails around the Rock Garden area, just south of White Mountain, are not maintained trails and sections are often overgrown. In the process of trying to stay on the trail, the pair ended up in dense brush. Tired and lost, they contacted Sheriff’s Dispatch for assistance.

Nine members of Santa Barbara County Search & Rescue responded at a little before 1 pm. Copter 1 from the County Air Support Unit also responded. While the GPS pings provided the general area, Copter 1 located the hikers and talked the field teams into their location. The field teams escorted the hikers to Gibraltar Road and transported them to their vehicle.
