Eight People Displaced After Mesa Apartment Fire

4:00 p.m., May 9, 2018

At approximately 12:30 today Santa Barbara Combined Dispatch Center received a report of a structure fire located at 1000 Cliff Drive. First on scene units found heavy smoke and fire from the first floor of a two story apartment complex. An aggressive interior fire attack was initiated which held the fire to a single apartment. Smoke damage also occurred to adjacent apartments. It took four Engines, one Truck Company, a Safety Officer, and a Battalion Chief approximately 15 minutes to extinguish the fire.  

 All residents of the apartment complex successfully evacuated the structure. No injuries were reported to the residents or firefighters on scene. A total of eight residents were displaced and the Red Cross was notified for assistance. Fire investigators were dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. At this point the investigation is ongoing and no cause of the fire has been determined. Initial damage was estimated at $100,000.
