A vehicle with a single occupant crashed 100 feet over the side of Highway 154 near Old San Marcos Road Wednesday afternoon.
At 12:32 p.m., Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD, Los Padres National Forest Fire Department, California Highway Patrol (CHP), Santa Barbara County Sheriff Search & Rescue, and a nearby emergency helicopter responded to the location. Crews were able to locate the vehicle approximately 100 feet over the roadway in dense brush.
Firefighters used a rope system to rappel down to the vehicle and determined the female patient was uninjured. Crews put the woman in a harness and hoisted her to the roadway for additional medical evaluations.
There are no road closures in the area.
CHP is investigating the cause of this incident and new reports stated the woman was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence. It’s unclear if any formal charges were brought against her.
I wonder why they handcuffed her?

I heard all of the sirens so I turned on my scanner APP and heard that she had called a friend just before this happened to say she had been in an accident on the 154 but left the scene and was driving home. She told her friend she needed to go to Cottage thus the friend called 911 and indicated the driver was also drunk. A highway patrol officer went to her house and she was not there. In the meantime she had called 911 to say she was trapped in her car and didn’t know where she was. They pinged her phone and saw she had driven back up the 154 and turned onto Old San Marcos road where she then went over the edge. 911 asked her to honk her horn so the rescue and highway patrol could find her and that worked.

Yet another reason to stay off the 154. Just pure dumb luck this inebriate didn’t collide with another vehicle or two and consign a bunch of innocents into the Great Beyond. How pitiful to be such a drunk.
That is very interesting… I wonder why the driver didn’t just call 911 herself. Maybe she was hoping the friend would take her to Cottage and not have to face the cops.
Wow you actually took the time to look into my past that is PATHETIC . If you continue to look you will see those charges from 15 years ago were reduced and dismissed, It must be nice to have nothing better to do except attempt to humiliate someone publicly even more than it is.
