Driver Seriously Injured in Buellton Vehicle Collision

A driver was seriously injured in a rollover collision near Buellton Sunday afternoon.

At 4:32 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to SR-246, approximately a 1/2 mile west of Buellton and discovered a single-vehicle collision where a white sedan had rolled over.

The driver was ejected during the rollover and sustained critical injuries. The patient was flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by a Calstar helicopter for treatment.

There were traffic restrictions in the area. The cause is under investigation.

  1. I’d like to see meaningful demographics. Is it mostly young men, a loosely affiliated “gearhead” group, a competition to settle something as in the move “Grease”? Would some variety of sanctioned, overseen course or drag strip allow them to compete w/o the grim results and danger to others on the road? Or is it something darker involving drink or drugs and the isolating effect of Covid? If stats show a major pick-up, we’d best get a handle on the cause and try to ameliorate it.
