District Attorney Decides Not to Charge San Marcos Preserve Protestors

District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced [Monday] that the District Attorney’s Office will not file criminal charges on the eight protesters who were arrested and cited for obstructing the free movement of people on a public street on February 25th, 2021 on Salvar Road near the San Marcos Preserve.

The contractor who was blocked from entering the property by the protesters initially sought law enforcement’s involvement, but subsequently, the property owner who employed the contractor informed Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office personnel that he did not want charges to be filed.

The property owner’s and the contractor’s input was taken into consideration both at the time of the arrests and at the time of making a filing decision.

  1. Thank goodness. After a bit of reflection on this, those arrested were not in the classical sense “protestors.” They were actually just upset individuals who were acting out a bit, but pretty harmless and mild. Cops would rather have these folks rather than the hardcore Portland/Seattle type protestors.

  2. Babycakes, how can you live with this sort of “logic”? It is fine to say they should not be prosecuted but it is absurd to comment that the people who are fighting for equality and justice are cause for fear. Sounds just like a GOP creep who said he was not afraid of the insurrectionists but would have been scared it it were Black people he saw in the capitol. Racist drivel.

  3. Pit/Sac/RHS: I will agree to disagree with you, but the vitriol and name/lame calling is not helping. I refuse to be a victim, and offer a hand to come join with me. May you find peace by helping and sacrificing for others as I have. Government is not my answer. I look in the mirror for my answer….which is me.
