Deputies Looking Out for Impaired Drivers 4th of July Weekend

Source: Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office

As we approach the 4th of July holiday, the Goleta Police Department encourages the public to be responsible and safe over the Independence Day Weekend by not driving impaired.

July 4th falls on a Saturday this year, and to keep families safe, Goleta Police will have deputies on patrol throughout the Independence Day Weekend looking for drivers suspected of driving impaired, with additional deputies on patrol Friday, July 3, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The Goleta Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving or “operating heavy machinery,” which includes driving a car. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home. If you are going to a bar or restaurant, designate a sober driver before heading out for the evening.

The Goleta Police Department encourages the community to think of the safety of themselves and their families when enjoying the Independence Day holiday. Your actions save lives.

Funding for DUI enforcement was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The City of Goleta contracts with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office for police services.

  1. Yes DUI, might kill someone….that’s why we have that law. Now, what about people not wearing FACE MASKS ? That might kill someone…..right ??? and multiplied by all the people infected by one person. ( One person infects 2….two infect 4……..4 infect 16…….16 infect 256) . Can the police patrol for people not wearing masks ? Anybody got any intelligence on this ? BTW….I can’t find any N95 masks anywhere. (not Nigerian internet scam masks, etc) . If anyone knows where to buy some real N95 masks, I need them to protect myself from people who don’t wear regular masks. For those who don’t know…..surgical mask, cloth mask, bandana, etc…..these type of masks protect the spread of COVID-19 to other people. These type of masks don’t protect the person wearing them from someone (without a mask, known as a covidiot) in their area. To protect yourself from these people, you need an N95 mask. I can’t find any.
