David Richard Rubio, Jr.

David Richard Rubio, Jr. passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020 after battling various health issues in recent years.

Born February 3, 1961, to Mary and David Rubio, Sr, of Santa Barbara, David was raised in Santa Barbara and attended the Notre Dame School (i.e. Dolores School), Bishop Garcia Diego High School, and Santa Barbara City College.

In his younger years David took great pleasure in playing tennis with family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching the teams of his four sons (primarily, but not solely, in soccer) over a span of 25 years. During the time of his sons’ attendance at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Montecito, he worked on multiple fund raisers and social gatherings, as well as on the parent board.

David worked as a Public Safety Officer at Westmont College for 35 years while also serving with the Montecito Fire Department’s reserves for many years. During his recreational time, he enjoyed shooting, camping and being with family and friends. But his greatest passion was fishing (ocean or fresh water). One only had to view his collection of multiple fishing poles and gear that attested to his love of this sport. The only pleasure surpassing this for him was taking someone fishing for the first time.

Preceding David in death are his son, Benjamin Rubio, his father, David Rubio, Sr, mother, Mary Rubio, and sister, Yvonne Rubio.

Besides leaving behind the friends who loved and enjoyed him, David is survived by his wife Julie Rubio; sons’ David (Kerry) Rubio, III (Springfield MA), Thomas (Lauren) Rubio (San Diego), Aaron (Therese) Rubio (San Diego); grandsons Jayce and Jayden Rubio (Springfield, MA); brother Tom Rubio, nephew Alec and other local family members.

Due to the coronavirus, no service will be held at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in memory of David to:
