Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation (PCVF) invites the community to celebrate 4th of July with an hour-long television special this Saturday, July 4th, on KEYT TV Channel 3 from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

PCVF encourages individuals and families to stay home, be well, and enjoy the holiday during COVID-19 by continuing their yearly tradition for the Santa Barbara community.

“We are very excited we get a chance to bring 4th of July traditions to those who want to stay safe and carry on Independence Day traditions,” said John Blankenship, PCVF Co-Founder. “This is our first time doing a 4th of July TV special and we are happy we get to continue to carry on the holiday spirit during these times. As we all make small sacrifices in our daily lives to adjust to living with COVID-19 including not being able to have our Independence Day Parade, it does help shine a light on the real sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform and what they fought for.”

The 4th of July Celebration will include different scenes from past parades, special guests, a concert with the West Coast Symphony and a spectacular fireworks finale. To learn more, please visit pcvf.org.

  1. Traffic & eclipse plus lots of patriotic TV offerings like this added to C-19 make staying at home this year a lot easier decision. Traffic NorthBound from Carp to SB on gMaps w/Traffic on, or- http://cwwp2.dot.ca.gov/vm/loc/d5/us101santaclauslane.htm + KEYT, PBS and many other TV channels. + Beach & bar closures. + Partial Lunar Eclipse begins at moonrise, max at 9:29pm, ending at 10:52pm. What a year, eh?!

  2. Lots of fireworks visible on the eastside! Any connection with councilmember A. Gutierrez, new to the council this year? 1st time for this – coming from three or four different areas, off Quinientos and Carpinteria Streets. Scary for my dog!

  3. No, there is no connection to a specific council member! Fireworks have been used and abused nationwide for the past month or 2! I can’t imagine what the stray dog animal shelters are like… Not to mention cranky tired people and the sensitized/PTSD sufferers pushed to their limit!
Really, you can search for news about fireworks. In many cities, complaints have increased ten-fold and more, and it’s been going on a very long time.

  4. North Patterson area, too. I’m wondering if the source is 4 adolescent males, roughly 14 -17, on bikes? After several periods of explosions, one was a sparking sky rocket. I got into the car to see who was holding a party and ask them not to burn down my house. I ran into the four (not literally–I hit my brakes) barreling down Via Bolzano hill as if Freddy Kruger was chasing them. Judging by lights in houses, the neighborhood was either in their TV room, in bed or not home, and there were no tell-tale lines of parked cars indicating a party. Parents of that age group: Do any of your son’s clothes smell like gun powder?

  5. This is the first time in our lives as decades’ long dog owners where we now have two dogs who don’t even turn a hair when there are loud noises. *** Thank goodness.*** I read that noise sensitivity in dogs is inherited, although I’m sure some dogs may develop noise sensitivity via some sort of puppyhood or adult dog trauma, too. Fireworks should be banned, if only for the misery it causes to wild animals and to many animals owned by humans.
