Bird I.D.

By an edhat reader

I went on a hike up Rattle Snake Trail yesterday and came across this bird. Does anyone know what it is? I’ve never seen one like this before and it was fearless. It could have cared less that the group of people I was with were watching or taking photos of it, all it was interested in was peeking under rocks for dinner.

  1. I heard one yesterday while hiking up the backside of Gibraltar ( started at Coldspring to Forbush Flats, east on the Gibraltar trail to the quicksilver mine, then to the dam before heading back up to ECC). Also heard one recently in Mission Canyon while hiking up to Arlington Peak. Their series of high to low notes is very pleasant and distinct. I hear them a lot in Southern Utah too such as in the scenic Grand Staircase Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments – sorry, had to get that in after Trump’s selfish and short-sighted announcement today.
