Bennett’s Saved by Local Family

Bennett’s Toys & Educational Materials located in the Magnolia Shopping Center on Hollister Avenue has been a Santa Barbara staple for close to 50 years.  Earlier this year Vernon Moore, who had owned Bennett’s for 35 years decided it was time to retire and close the store; thankfully he found the perfect new owners in Santa Barbara born and raised Kurt & Lisa Richter.  The Richters purchased the business from Moore at the end of September, moved the store to another location in Magnolia Center, just a few doors down to #5148 and are now open for business.

Kurt is excited to embark on this new adventure leaving his 31-year career as an automotive technician.  “My cousins family owned a toy store growing up, some of my fondest memories were visiting them and getting to work at the store, now I get to share that with my family” states Richter.   Along with their two young daughters Samantha and Sabrina, Kurt and Lisa plan to maintain the same great quality and service that Bennett’s has provided local families and teachers for the past 50 years.

The shelves are stocked with an amazing selection of everything from Legos and Barbies to the latest books and science projects as well as tons of classroom supplies for teachers. Grand Re-Opening Celebration will be Saturday, December 2nd from 10 am – 5:30 pm lots of great prizes and giveaways all day long.  Visit Bennett’s new location at 5148 Hollister Ave in the Magnolia Shopping Center.  Regular store hours are Monday – Friday10 am-6 pm, Saturday 10 am-5:30 pm and Sunday 11 am-4 pm.
