The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department added 91 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday.
Of the new cases, 33 were located in Santa Maria and 9 were in Santa Barbara.
The county’s grand total is now 6,094 with 290 active cases, meaning these have currently tested positive and are infectious.
There are 89 hospitalizations including 29 in the intensive care unit (ICU), a sharp increase since Wednesday where there 79 hospitalizations including 29 ICU’s.

Cottage Health Specific Numbers
The below numbers are from all Cottage Health locations and does not include the numbers from Marian Regional Medical Hospital.
Below is a status update as of July 30, 2020 from Cottage:

Cottage Health is caring for a total of 275 patients across all campuses.

220 are acute care patients; 168 acute care beds remain available.

Of the 220 acute care patients, 15 patients are on ventilators. 75 ventilators remain available (adult, pediatric and neonatal ventilators).

Of the 220 acute care patients, 29 are in isolation with COVID-19 symptoms; 27 are confirmed COVID-19 positive.

Of the 29 patients in isolation, 10 patients are in critical care.

From July 13-19:
4,256 COVID-19 laboratory tests were collected by Cottage Health.
Results: 260 positive, 3,994 negative, 2 pending -
From July 20-26:
3,730 COVID-19 laboratory tests were collected by Cottage Health.
Results: 202 positive, 2,984 negative, 544 pending
This is a record number of both hospitalized and ICU patients. All time high.
How close are we to herd immunity?
Superfreak whats the different between a record number and all time high? Just curious
Stop with the herd immunity stuff. People have been known to catch COVID-19 more than once so herd immunity will be very very very difficult to achieve.
It was just a clarifying statement, since record number could be interpreted as record for July versus record for June, or record number since reopening, etc. I know you’re just being sarcastic, but just in case…
Around 36 times more people need to be infected to get to lower bounds of herd immunity, assuming that sufficient amounts of effective antibodies are produced for a long period of time post-infection.
So did everyone order face shields and goggles?
Anyone notice NO deaths from this cause now. Count our blessings. BUT, rumor is they are coding these positive incorrectly all over the Country. Hope they audit them? More money for COVID death. Sorry to be so sinister. Greed is greed.
We need to stop this now. Heard schools will not open until January now. Less positive rates than Cancers and we don’t lock down for those. Tests mean infection not death now. We do intervene early and stop it. There are complications/risks that are existing in many people who should be totally vigilant. What percent? Not elderly here– we are very active and healthy.
Regarding herd immunity, can’t we just send out the 20-40 year olds [ones with no underlying issues] to catch it, the rest of us take precautions. Then send out the 40=45 year olds. Once they all catch it won’t the rest of us be good to go? Plus they are less likely to die than the elderly or compromised.
