New Year's Eve Celebrations?

Edhat readers are curious to know where the best New Year's Eve celebrations will be throughout town. Below are their questions

  • A few friends and I are looking for a place to go for New Years to dance or listen to music. The catch is that we're OLD (58-62) so we don't want to go to a bar that's geared for the college crowd. Prefer a place where the entertainment starts like at 8, otherwise we'll fall asleep before we get out the door. Is there such a place in Santa Barbara or Goleta?

  • Any places to celebrate NYE in SB that doesn't have a cover?

  • Are there establishments in Goleta with New Year's parties or would we have to travel to Santa Barbara?

The Biltmore is having a Great Gatsby NYE themed party inside the Ty Lounge! DJ Darla Bea is leading music. Fun excuse to dress up if you're into it :)

The waiting for a ticket to get into the lot wasn't a comment about time-waste, it was about Hotel California trying to make a public parking lot into one limited to its own patrons. Many people do about the same thing, laying out blankets or strings of chairs as a claim to spots in public parks or on curbs hours or a day before they occupy them or claiming tables with their jackets or keys in crowded restaurants before they are in line to order. It's the new way to jump to the head of the line and a sign of the times.

The Funk Zone will have a bunch of things going on. The Californian Hotel is doing something early and watching the NY ball drop at 9pm with music and entertainment. Creekside has DJs and no cover charge. A lot of bars downtown have a higher cover charge so best to call first to find out.

FunkZone isn't 4 Locals. Stop supporting it. Is fuels low wages jobs, tourism, parking problems and pushes locals out of town.

Parking is for the 1% at the Hotel Californian. If any resident expected the public parking structure to be anything else they need to have their head examined. Personally I have tried parking there and been turned away as have the cars behind me. One of the Planning Commissioner's took photos of a empty parking structure that the Hotel Californian wasn't letting the public park in. If anyone heads down their tonight (I would recommend going somewhere else because of the parking) just be aware of how the hotel games the system and turn the tables on them. - It is just another business practice the rich use to rape the City for their pleasure and gain while they screw residents. Promise one thing to get your project built. Deliver and operate counter to any promises.

3minutes! Oh my, you should call Barry Cappello and file suit. No one should have to wait 3minutes for a parking spot, ever!!!

The Hotel Californian has a public parking lot. They try to prevent the public from using it by saying it's for hotel guests or frustrating the public by making it impossible to get in. - They make you jump through hoops to get a ticket. Took me 3 minutes last week to get in when it should have take 10 seconds. - If someone says there isn't parking have someone walk into the parking structure to confirm there are no parking places available or wait until some leaves. It beats driving around for parking. The hotel was required to build the parking structure and offer it on a first come first serve basis, at the same rates as the rest of the City parking structures, but the Hotel Californian wants to use it solely for valet and hotel guests only.
