A new specialty market, Coyote’s Market, is set to open in Carpinteria in 2026, offering a selection of meat, seafood, and kitchen goods.
The market will be located at 4945-A Carpinteria Ave, a space previously home to Carp Kitchen & Grocery.
Coyote’s Market is scheduled to open in Spring 2026. The lease has been signed, and construction and preparations are already underway.
Coyote’s Market will focus on meat and seafood sourced from small Central Coast ranches, including a partnership with Motley Crew Ranch and local fisheries. The livestock will be raised without hormones or antibiotics, and the seafood will come from California waters, according to the store’s website.
The market will also offer local dry goods, kitchen smallwares, and a curated knife collection, featuring blades from both local artisans and renowned makers in Germany and Japan.
Beef at Coyote’s Market will be sourced from the Hernandez Family Ranch.

Coyote’s Market will be led by Peter and Carline Hernandez, longtime Carpinteria residents born and raised in Santa Barbara County. The duo brings decades of experience building businesses and collaborating with farmers and ranchers across the Central Coast.
Carline Hernandez grew up around farmers’ markets and was involved in the family business from an early age before launching a San Francisco food truck, according to Coyote’s Market website.
The truck eventually evolved into Fogcutter Catering, which was named Best Catering Company by San Francisco Magazine for three consecutive years. She has also produced global culinary events with Outstanding in the Field.
Peter Hernandez co-founded Brothers of Industry, a Central Coast millwork company serving restaurants and hotels.
Carp Kitchen & Grocery
The previous occupant of 4945-A Carpinteria Ave, Carp Kitchen & Grocery, opened in November 2021 and became known for its house-made pastries, sandwiches, deli salads, and prepared foods.
The business was women-owned and led by owner and chef Deb Goldman. Its menu featured lemon chicken soup, garden salads, vegan options, and a curated grocery selection.
In October 2025, the business announced its closure, expressing gratitude to the community for its support over the past four years.
