A new Roman-style pizza restaurant is set to open in Goleta this summer.
Pegaslice, a new Roman-style pizza restaurant, is preparing to open its doors in Goleta this June.
Specializing in Roman-style pizza, the new restaurant will open at 7398 Calle Real, Unit C, the former location of Home Plate Grill, which closed in March after serving diners for nearly a decade.
In a video shared on Facebook, Pegaslice owner and chef McLeod Noormand offered a peek into the upcoming restaurant.
The video offers a glimpse of the interiors of Pegaslice and shows Noormand working on remodeling the restaurant.
Pegaslice is expected to open on June 1, 2026, Noormand said in a reply to his Instagram post earlier this week.
While Pegaslice is yet to release a full menu, the restaurant said it will serve Roman-style pizza, sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and desserts, including soft-serve ice cream, along with beverages like milkshakes.
In another Instagram post, Noormand shared a picture of a soft serve ice cream machine that was newly installed at the restaurant.

A young restaurant-owner, Noormand belongs to a family with a history of running restaurants in the Santa Barbara region and grew up around his family’s pizza business.
His father, Shawn Noormand owns Giovanni’s Pizza in Carpinteria. Shawn purchased Giovanni’s in 1997 after working at his father’s pizzeria in Montecito for nine years. Shawn continues to hand-roll the pizza dough every morning and slices vegetables, according to the restaurant’s Yelp page.
What is a Roman-Style Pizza?
While the Neapolitan-style pizzas are one of the most popular Italian pizza styles, the Roman-style pizza has gained popularity in recent years.
Roman-style pizzas are typically rectangular or square-shaped, unlike the round-shaped Neapolitan-style pizzas, and have thin crusts.
Roman-style pizza dough is fermented for at least 72 hours, which helps to make the dough light, crispy, and easy to digest.
The Roman-style pizza dough is rolled out thinly and is cooked at a high temperature for a short period, making the pizza crispy.
Toppings include the traditional mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, basil, artichokes, and other variations.
Pegaslice Replacing Home Plate Grill
Home Plate Grill, the popular restaurant known for its American comfort food, permanently closed its doors this March, ending its run after nearly 10 years.
While the restaurant had announced it would close on March 31, Home Plate Grill shared in an Instagram post that it had to close early, on March 26, due to staffing issues.
The restaurant’s owners had said that they decided not to renew the lease at the Padre Shopping Center due to challenges in the existing market. Although the landlords were open to negotiations, the owners decided not to continue business.
The restaurant had gained popularity and served as a neighborhood dining spot for residents and visitors.
