Pickleball enthusiasts rejoice! Shannon Gaston, a local entrepreneur known for her successful eatery Crushcakes & Café, has ventured into the world of sports by opening Crush Courts—a brand new pickleball facility that promises an exclusive and enriching experience for players of all levels.

Shannon, who began playing pickleball in 2023, quickly embraced the sport with open arms, her passion ignited by its engaging nature and the growing community around it. Spotting a gap in the market for private, high-quality pickleball courts, Shannon and her partner, Andrew Manalis, took an innovative step.

They transformed a 25-year-old tennis court located on her parents’ property off North San Marcos Road into a state-of-the-art pickleball haven. These new courts, equipped with a separate entrance from the main residence, promise an entirely private gameplay experience, removed from the crowded and often overbooked public facilities.

Starting at $50 for a minimum two-hour slot, and with private lessons offered by Manalis starting at $85 per hour, Crush Courts aims to cater to a wide audience .Pickleballers also can order food and beverage packages catered by Crushcakes for private events and parties.

“Together we are building a community of folks who want to enjoy the game in a fun, safe, welcoming environment with the ability to learn, grow and just have some fun,” states the website.

  1. The courts are located in some sort of private community or association. I trust the owner spoke to their neighbors prior to starting this business to warn them of increased noise and traffic. The configuration of the courts could be an issue since the balls from one court will frequently go into the opposite court. Also, there’s not much room between the courts, which means players could be backing into each other or certainly “sharing” the backcourt space.
