You may have noticed changes to a section of Cathedral Oaks Road in western Goleta.
The newly repaved road now features protected Class IV bike lanes, parallel parking in a protected bike lane and back-in parking. We know these safety measures may takes time getting used to which is why we hope you will take a moment and watch this short tutorial video.
See for yourself what to expect and how to master these parking methods.

I finally got over there yesterday to bicycle and observe these changes. I am totally in favor. Additionally, I hope that, in time, Cathedral Oaks has more design consistency. As I bicycled back to Noleta, I noticed that the road changes patterns at least twice and this may confuse drivers who are not familiar with our area. Reminds me of when I drive 101 through construction patterns on the way to the Pacific Northwest. When I tired and the road is not consistent, It can feel a bit dangerous. Hats off to all who made this happen for all of us.
Change is hard, but overall this is beneficial for all.
Change IS hard, but I don’t see this as beneficial at all. How is it beneficial? I think it’s convoluted and dangerous.
BASIC – it’s really neither. Car drives in car lane, cyclist goes in bike lane, car parks in slanty spot. Super easy. No one who actually lives here can’t figure it out.
You don’t need to freak out about every single thing the City, the School District, the Governor, or Salud does. It’s all good. You’ll be just fine. Maybe rally the vote next time?
Live in the area, feels really disjointed with how disorganized the lines are painted. Overall spacing of the lanes feels incredibly tight. You’re hugging the median now to stay out of the bike lane pushed right up against traffic. Hopefully it returns to normal soon along with the old town fiasco.
🤣
