2021 SB Basketball Court of Champions Ceremony Sunny Side Up

The afternoon was a sunny, balmy 75 degrees, as UCLA and
Los Angeles Laker legend Jamaal Wilkes made his way across the stage to share his opening
statements with the audience. For the safety of all, during this covid pandemic
era, the Event was conducted at the Carpinteria High School Outdoor Amphitheatre.

As Guest Speaker, Mr. Wilkes shared that he is still "a Don" having played basketball at
Santa Barbara High School for the Dons. He introduced his former teammate Don Ford,
also a star on that 1970-71 squad. He then recognized Mayor Wade Nomura of Carpinteria,
who was  also an athlete at SBHS at that time. Jamaal followed up with his emphasis about
basketball and the importance of coaches and volunteers who have made a difference in our lives.
He later gave out his book, "Memoirs of the Original Smooth as Silk," to each Inductee.

This year's Court of Champions ceremony acknowledged outstanding individuals from the
Carpinteria community who have displayed their talents and public service through the game of
basketball. Each of them continue to support their community in Carpinteria and other regions
of California. John Moore, once again, MC-ed the Event with eloquent articulation, interviewing
each new inductee.
