Just before 7:00 p.m. Saturday (June 1), a couple returning home from a walk noticed smoke billowing from a residence near Valerio and Calle Boca Del Cañion on Santa Barbara’s westside.
The couple was able to open the garage door and used a nearby hose to attempt to douse the fire.
It turns out a scooter that was plugged in for charging had its batteries explode and scattered throughout the garage. Some of the batteries ricochet to the garage door, others were all the way inside the garage.

Water seemed to have no effect on the lithium batteries themselves, yet kept the fire from spreading.
At least three Santa Barbara Fire Department trucks arrived on the scene.
The owners of the home soon returned from a bicycle outing and were very grateful for the quick actions taken by their neighbors. One of the residents stated she will be asking her husband to get rid of some of the electric-powered micromobility devices such as e-scooters, etc.
Lithium battery powered devices can be dangerous when left unattended during recharging. Thankfully this time everything turned out in a positive outcome.

COAST – lol it’s not because they don’t like what you say about EVs, it’s likely because you, like many others…cough cough BASIC… and even me for a while, get automatically deleted while they review your comment because you have a history of violating the terms of the site.
Go ahead, COAST….. I know you’re itching to say it.
Instigate much?
LCP – Hypocrite much? I was actually acknowledging COAST being right about lithium batteries and jokingly giving him the “go ahead.”
Hard to take your trolling seriously.

Liquid lithium batteries are always potentially dangerous in any vehicle and device. Solid state lithium is hopefully gonna stop that danger.
ANON – yep! Also, progress toward sodium-ion batteries is rapidly underway, making these EVs even more environmentally friendly and safer.
I don’t care for these lithium battery fires…. Especially overnight while cars are charging…. Too risky.
Fire sensors / cameras at all charging stations???
You clueless types should look at the statistics for gasoline fires if you’re worried about the bigger risk.
Aliases for Anonimous-Detectives include the term Dic, which may apply in this case. Yes egg-foo-sum-one, gas is dangerous as can be, thit is expected. Electrical fires are kind of a surprise to those affected. Plus, plugs that seem liek they fit may be the wrong Amperage, Voltage, Direct Current, or Alternating Current.
Oops, too many variables!!!
“Clueless Types” is a questionable authoritarian thing Anon. hahahahah
