National Silent Movie Day: A 1918 Santa Barbara Film

September 29th is National Silent Movie Day. Did you ever realize that watching a silent movie is a form of time travel? Old movies allow us to walk back in time.

For example, here are a couple of scenes of Santa Barbara in 1918 in a “Flying A” film called “The Eyes of Julia Deep.”

You can watch it – I mean, time travel – on YouTube:

BTW – You can also time travel back to the Channel Islands via my silent movie exhibit at the Chrisman Channel Islands Center in Carpinteria starting on Saturday, Oct. 5. I’ll be there playing old-time movie music and answering questions.
