Multi-Vehicle Traffic Collision on San Ysidro

Update by edhat reader Chipeddy

Nasty and scary crash on Southbound 101 right at the Miramar Hotel, parallel to South Jameson. I’m not sure what caused the crash but I heard the sirens from my house and went to check it out.

I saw one car that had front end damage and had spun around 180 degrees to be facing backward and the silver a Toyota in the photos flew off the right shoulder and through the pathetically flimsy fence and almost  (thank God it didn’t) landed onto South Jameson Road.

I ride my bike with my kids along that side of the road several times a week coming back from Posilipo and the thought of how easily a car can careen off the freeway at high speeds and jump the median into pedestrians is truly horrifying. We definitely need an upgrade in the safety barrier guard rail or a wall or something there along that stretch.  And I’ve been told this same median-jumping accident has occurred in that same spot on South Jameson at least one other time and possibly more often than anyone wants to admit or think about.
