MOVIES WAY BACK WHEN – Not a Happy Ending

Dateline: August 1918

Silent movies about life after death were common in the 19teens at the time of World War I and the Spanish Flu. (Imagine what it would have been like for us to have a war going on at the same time as the Covid pandemic!)

In August 1918, the Astra Film Company from Hollywood traveled up here to film some scenes for the war movie “Our Better Selves” at a couple of estates in Montecito. The movie ended with the souls of the leading actors crossing the River Styx.
