One of the episodes of a silent movie adventure serial was filmed on Santa Cruz Island this month. The rugged coastline of this island was a popular location for adventure movies.

Here’s the storyline: A ship is wrecked on a tropical island filled with wild beasts. The hero and heroine are searching for her father and a stolen treasure worth five million dollars.

“Santa Cruz Island has been selected by director William Craft for his latest chapter of ‘The Beasts of Paradise,’ a thrilling serial starring William Desmond.” – Exhibitors Trade Review, September 1, 1923.
