Mountain Lion Seen in Winchester Canyon

A neighbor spotted a mountain lion roaming through our neighborhood Wednesday morning around 6:30am in broad daylight. This is Jenna Dr where it meets Calle Real in Goleta near Winchester Open Space.

Sep 08, 2022 02:44 PMIt's within 1000 feet of the entrance to the canyon, so same thing really. Besides, cats like this roam so who's to say it wasn't down the hill across the street in the canyon 30 minutes before or after this?

Sep 08, 2022 02:40 PMEveryone needs to put out water. This past week I've seen animals at my bird baths and bowls that I don't normally see. In this terrific heat, wild things need all the help they can get.

Sep 08, 2022 04:42 PMMaybe the people on the edges of the “wild land” can put out some water, keep the wild critters over there. I do put out water for birds and skunks in my more urban area. Haven’t seen any mountain lions downtown, yet.

Sep 09, 2022 01:06 AMI've wondered about this. I often hear a large pack of coyotes in the foothills in my neighborhood. I'm sure they're healthy because there are water sources on or near Foothill ranches (This is near Ontare Rd., on the foothills side of course)
I've been keeping a saucer of water full, for skunks, raccoon and possums, and any birds.)

Sep 08, 2022 08:02 PMThe wildlife in our Los Padres Forest, frequently come down usually using the creek beds as a highway. There have been mountain lions near the old Elephant Bar on the SBA property in the past. I am sure they and other wildlife not normally seen below the foothills are making the trek for agua.
