Motorcyclist Killed in Solo Collision

Update by the California Highway Patrol

On March 9, 2018, at approximately 4:07 p.m., a fatal collision occurred on El Colegio Road west of Stadium Road.  Party #1 from Irvine, was driving a 2015 Kawasaki motorcycle, traveling with in the number 2 lane of traffic.  For reasons not yet determined the motorcycle veered to the right and collided into the raised concrete curb located on the north side of the street.  Party #1 was ejected colliding into a bus stop bench and pole in the immediate vicinity.  Party #1 was pronounced deceased by on duty medical professionals. 

El Colegio Road was closed for approximately 90 minutes.  Traffic was diverted to Stadium Road for the duration of the investigation. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.  The collision remains under investigation at this time.  Victim information will be releasable through the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office after next of kin have been notified.

  1. I don’t think you got anything mixed up, Roger. I thought I had misheard it, or combined calls until I saw your post. There was a lot going on at the time… one engine going instead of another, stabbings and stagings…. It’s a challenge to track. Thank you for all the work you do, Sir! It’s truly a monumental task.

  2. All LE groups try to keep emergency radio traffic brief and responders don’t have to deal with 3 or 4 names for the same highway. Maybe you’d prefer calling 101, Screaming Eagles Highway and 154, Chumash Highway; aka El Camino Real and San Marcos Pass Rd. which could totally screw up response times in an emergency.
