Update by the California Highway Patrol

On March 9, 2018, at approximately 4:07 p.m., a fatal collision occurred on El Colegio Road west of Stadium Road.  Party #1 from Irvine, was driving a 2015 Kawasaki motorcycle, traveling with in the number 2 lane of traffic.  For reasons not yet determined the motorcycle veered to the right and collided into the raised concrete curb located on the north side of the street.  Party #1 was ejected colliding into a bus stop bench and pole in the immediate vicinity.  Party #1 was pronounced deceased by on duty medical professionals. 

El Colegio Road was closed for approximately 90 minutes.  Traffic was diverted to Stadium Road for the duration of the investigation. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.  The collision remains under investigation at this time.  Victim information will be releasable through the Santa Barbara County Coroner's Office after next of kin have been notified.

I don't think you got anything mixed up, Roger. I thought I had misheard it, or combined calls until I saw your post. There was a lot going on at the time... one engine going instead of another, stabbings and stagings.... It's a challenge to track. Thank you for all the work you do, Sir! It's truly a monumental task.

I had a headache and fell down some sinus thing Wasn't really sure what I heard had 2 calls mixed up..Thanks again.

Few points of contact between downed motorcycle and pavement offering little friction so it can travel quite a ways even going at a modest speed of 30ish mph.

I witnessed the event happen. First responders tried persistently to assist the man, a large team that worked professionally and timely. The man had rolled a few times after contact with the bus stop, his bike skidding on its side and sparking until it stopped at the scene. Bystanders were quick to run over and get this young man help by calling. A sad day for loss of a young life
