On Sunday, September 8, at 8:43 p.m. a fatal traffic collision took place on Casitas Pass Road, at the intersection of State Route 192, in an unincorporated area of Santa Barbara County. A 30-year-old man from Carpinteria lost his life while riding a 2020 Harley Davidson.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the motorcycle was headed northbound on SR-224 (Casitas Pass Road) when, for reasons yet to be determined, it veered off the road and collided with a chain-link fence. The impact was severe enough to eject the rider from his vehicle, causing fatal injuries. CHP notes there were clear and calm conditions that evening with little reported traffic.

Following the incident, SR-192 at SR-224 was closed for an extended duration of four and a half hours as authorities conducted their on-scene investigation and managed the extraction of the motorcycle from the embankment.

CHP officials are continuing to investigate the crash. At this juncture, it remains uncertain whether alcohol or drugs played any role.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

CHP urges witnesses or individuals with any additional information regarding the crash to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
