What I have done for the past 11 years, is to pick up Mom in the morning, around 7:00 AM(ish), and we head to Lazy Acres. At "Lazy" I help her out of the car (she needs a cane because her leg is bad, and sometimes she even needs a walker). It takes her a while, but she "shuffles" slowly toward the doors, and she's ALWAYS amazed that they automatically open. We then head to the deli area, where Mom picks out all the things she wants to have on her special yearly Mother's Day picnic. At some point, she says, "Let's not forget the chocolate milk," and says it sort of as a statement and sort of as a question...but sweet as. We get back in the car and she asks if I can take her to "see Dad." We proceed to Calvary Cemetery off of Hope, and we find Dad's resting place.....same place as always. A side note: It's a little unnerving, because the grave maker has Dad's birth/death dates, but Mom's full name is also on the maker with her birth date, a dash, and a blank area for to inscribe "other" date. Each year, we have a picnic in the car, which keeps her out of the sun. When we finish, Mom walks over to Dad, and pours out the chocolate milk in the grass area around the grave maker........Dad LOVED chocolate milk. She closes her eyes and starts talks for about 45 seconds or so. I have never been able to hear what she says, and I've never asked her. I suppose it not really any of my business.
