A potentially dangerous situation was averted at Gaviota Beach in the Mariposa Reina area Sunday morning when a mother and her two children, aged 11 and 13, were caught between a rapidly rising tide and the steep cliff rocks.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department received an emergency call at approximately 11:50 am and were immediately dispatched to the location.
The family, enjoying a day at the beach, found themselves trapped by the rising tides that can bordered by cliffs.
Responding firefighters were able to guide the family up a trail at Mariposa Reina back to safety. No medical attention was necessary following their rescue.
The incident serves as a timely reminder for beachgoers to remain mindful of their surroundings and the power of natural elements such as the ocean’s tides.
