More Highway 101 Lane Closures in Carpinteria

Construction Update
Timeframe:  August 5 – 11, 2018

**Please note: one northbound and one southbound Highway 101 lane will be closed nightly from Sunday through Thursday, August 5th – 9th, between Bailard and Linden Avenues. See details below…**

Linden Avenue Overcrossing

  • The new underground support (pile) in the median has been installed. Crews will remove dirt from the new pile and install a rebar cage before pouring cement.
    • The northbound and southbound Highway 101 fast lanes will be closed nightly from Sunday through Thursday, August 5th – 9th, from Bailard to Linden Avenues to move equipment and work on the new underground support (pile) in the median.
      • On Sunday night, lane closures will occur from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am.
      • Between Monday and Thursday nights, lane closures will occur from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am.
      • One Highway 101 lane in each direction will remain open during the night work.
  • Southern California Edison crews will be working on electrical lines near Linden Avenue. Electrical lines will be raised temporarily to provide construction access, and then lines will be moved underground later in the project.
  • Rebar and wood form work continues on the walls for the new overcrossing section.

Casitas Pass Road Overcrossing

  • Crews will drive the underground supports (piles) in the median throughout the week. Pile driving will occur between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm to limit nighttime noise.
  • Crews will place additional concrete safety barrier near the Casitas Pass Road Overcrossing. There will be flagmen in the area as needed throughout the week.
  • Grading and drainage work continues on the new northbound Highway 101 on-ramp at Casitas Pass Road.

Highway 101

  • Carpinteria Creek Bridges (northbound and southbound Highway 101)
    • Crews continue installing temporary supports (falsework) for the new bridges.  Rebar installation continues for internal supports (stems) and the underside (soffit) of the bridges.
  • Northbound Highway 101 sound wall between Linden Avenue and Franklin Creek (Nipomo Drive)
    • Southern California Edison has finished connecting underground utilities and will remove old poles and overhead wires beginning as early as Monday. Sewer line relocation begins.
  • Electrical work throughout the project will be ongoing for new street lights and traffic signals.
  • Drainage improvements are beginning along northbound Highway 101 under the Casitas Pass Overcrossing.

Via Real

  • Please note that Via Real will only have 1 northbound lane open between Casitas Pass Road and Vallecito Road for the next few months. See map below.
    • Crews will be working on a retaining wall on Via Real between Hales Lane and Casitas Pass Road. 

Upcoming Work: summer/fall

  • The Highway 101 southbound off-ramp at Casitas Pass Road will close for up to 1 month. Detour maps can be viewed at SBROADS.com.
  • Carpinteria Valley Water District will install a new water line on Linden Avenue.

  2. Gas car, water stored to drink, fruits/vegetables w/high liquid content, pay attention-day and night. If a fire is not close, but could be quickly, put your pets in a room w/door closed. If you must evacuate, you can quickly grab them. Notify your neighbors by honking your horn as you leave, especially if at night. We’re all in this together. If you don’t have a car, make a plan now.
