Coast Village Road began to flood around 4:15 pm on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026 as rainwater rushed down through hillside properties, streamed down Olive Mill Road and pooled at the traffic circle and in front of the Montecito Inn.
Some drivers were hesitant to cross the rising lake and almost stalled out, but those that were being observed did make it through.
As soon as the rain let up, a rainbow emerged.
