Montecito’s annual 4th of July festivities undoubtedly captured the heart and spirit of the community with its much-anticipated “Biggest Little Parade” and grand picnic, co-hosted by the Montecito Community Foundation and Rosewood Miramar.

Widely recognized for its charm and intimacy, the event, meticulously organized by the 4th of July Committee under the leadership of board member Mindy Denson, was a triumphant expression of unity and celebration.

This year’s parade held a special honor, celebrating David Boyd as Grand Marshall. Known for his over two decades of tireless service to the Montecito Emergency Response and Recovery (MERRAG), Peoples’ Self-Help Housing, the Food Bank of Santa Barbara, and Transition House, Boyd has been a beacon of giving in the community. Alongside his wife Alyce, Boyd’s dedication was celebrated as he led the parade in a 1928 Chandler Dual Cowl Phaeton, captivating attendees with his well-deserved recognition.

The day kicked off with the traditional pancake breakfast hosted by the Montecito Fire Department, serving up hearty pancakes from 7 am to 11 am. This annual start not only fuels the participants but also fosters a sense of togetherness, setting the tone for the rest of the day’s celebrations.

The parade itself commenced at 11:30 am from Upper Manning Park, showcasing an array of participants from walkers and riders to animals and vehicles, all adorned in festive 4th of July decorations.

The route stretched along San Ysidro Road, culminating in Lower Manning Park where the community converged for an afternoon of live music, pie-eating contests, and an array of games designed for family fun.

Local vendors, including Rose Living Room Miramar, Lindsay’s Little Bakery, Coastal Doggz, and Sazon Latino Restaurant, offered a selection of delicious treats, contributing to the community spirit.

The 4th of July Committee ensured that the competitive spirit was alive, adjudicating parade entries for the Most Patriotic, Most Entertaining, and Best Community Spirit, with winners receiving fabulous prizes. The invitation to participate remained open until the day of the event, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the Montecito celebration.
