Montecito Resident and Television Host Ellen DeGeneres Contracts COVID-19

By edhat staff

Television host and Montecito resident Ellen DeGeneres announced she has COVID-19 and is shutting down the production of her show.

DeGeneres made the announcement via Twitter on Thursday stating she tested positive and is, fortunately, feeling fine at the moment.

“Anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified, and I am following all proper CDC guidelines,” she wrote. “I’ll see you all again after the holidays. Please stay healthy and safe.”

The Ellen Show recently welcomed back a socially distanced audience but has now cancelled production until next year.

DeGeneres has been spotted shopping and dining in Montecito in the past few weeks. She and her wife, actress Portia DeRossi, have lived in the area for several years often buying and selling different properties.

  1. @A-160 (No Name)- 30,000-40,000 Die of the “flu” each year in the U.S. The big difference with COVID is that Doctor’s and Coroner’s are calling ANY death with complications that are similar to COVID, “COVID Related death”. Most of those deaths are the older population or people with high risk health conditions… Fact is, if you are under 70, you have a 98% recovery rate and over 70 yrs old a 94% recovery rate… but hey, facts are disputed to keep us in this state of crazy. You trust our Media…?

  2. @ COASTWATCH (your real name, I presume): You’re wrong about that, completely. If you have COVID in addition to other diseases/ailments, and you would be alive if it weren’t for the COVID you had, then COVID caused your death. It’s simple, basic causation, the “but for” test. But for COVID, you’d be alive. It’s alarming how so many are unable to grasp such a simple concept.

  3. GCHEADLEY: Thanks for that link. Just curious, but did you read the research paper you cited? They’re making a big assumption that all excess deaths were due to COVID, without any actual scientific confirmation. In fact, they concede, “Areas with an exceptionally high number of excess deaths not assigned to Covid-19 may reflect a lack of testing facilities or co-morbidities that acquire priority in the assignment of cause of death. Indirect deaths, such as suicide or drug overdose and deaths related to reduced use of health care services, may also be higher in these areas.” Drug use is way up, as are murders, suicide, and accidents from being impaired. People are stressed, depressed and generally more unhealthy that previous years. People are forgoing routine exams that could discover urgent health conditions that require immediate intervention. This is an unusual year, and comparing it to prior years comes is problematic. The authors’ hypothesis is simply a guess that’s impossible to prove, but you’re selling it like it’s a fact.

  4. Your number assumes every single person who has or has had COVID has been tested. That assumption is obviously and definitively wrong. The cdc Assumes that they are seeing a fraction of the positives… which is why the cdc Puts it at .65% which is higher than most other estimates. Use your head and stop making this political. The anti mask idiots are, well… idiots! This is 5-7 times deadlier than influenza… it’s real and terrible! But stop exaggerating it for your own personal political gain… just because people (ridiculously) deny it in any and every way , don’t exaggerate it the other way. The science says it’s serious..it’s real… and it has a .5 to .65% chance if killing you

  5. My apologies for the inappropriately strong words… it was a carryover from a similar argument I’ve Had here many times over the last 3 month… I shouldn’t have directed it at you.
My frustration has and continues to be with the extremes on both the left and right, who both ignore science. The one side says masks are useless, don’t use them and the whole is a hoax… and they ignore science… which is crazy! But I also have encountered people on here who go so far the other way that it’s also crazy. Not sure who I was arguing with a couple months ago but I was a science denying right wing nut because I quoted the cdc’s .65% mortality rate to correct them as they were touting a 3% mortality rate. The rate is down to .3% to .5% (and obviously lower/higher based on age) which is still scary high!
So again, I’m sorry for the misdirection of annoyance and anger that shouldn’t have been directed your way. I Get (too!) annoyed with the science deniers on the right and left…
