I saw a headline on the National Weather Service website titled, "Montecito Debris Flow Survey."

Clicking on the link reads the following:

Dr. Laura Myers from the University of Alabama, in partnership with National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard, is conducting a study on the warning process during the recent Montecito debris flow and mudslide. This study will focus on your experiences prior to, during and following January 9. Having your input will allow Dr. Myers and the NWS better understand your needs and improve the warning process for the Los Angeles/Oxnard community. The information you provide will remain confidential and your name will not be associated with your responses. You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in the study. You will be asked for demographic information to ensure we are getting responses from all of the population.  Names and identities will not be associated with the surveys. All data will be anonymous and will be stored on password protected computers. Only summarized data will be presented at meetings or in publications. There are no risks to participating in this study. Dr. Laura Myers from the University of Alabama will be conducting this survey research study. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the survey, contact Dr. Myers at (205) 348-5714. If you have questions, concerns, or complaints about your rights as a participant in this research study, you may contact Ms. Tanta Myles, the Research Compliance Officer at The University of Alabama, at 205-348-8461 or toll-free at 1-877-820-3066. If you have complaints or concerns about this study, file them through the UA IRB outreach website at http://osp.ua.edu/site/PRCO_Welcome.html. Also, if you participate, you are encouraged to complete the short Survey for Research Participants online at this website. This helps UA improve its protection of human research participants.

The survey can be completed here.

Montecito Debris Flow Survey

And then there are people like me and my family. We didn't wait to be told to do anything. We thought it was best to be safe rather than sorry. Anyone who thinks fire in our area can be kept under control and doesn't act at the whim and behest of winds is a fool.

Montecito Debris Flow Survey

I hope they publish their findings and send a copy to Edhat. Better warnings, of all kinds, must be locally controlled and improved. Some parts of the National warning system seem to be lacking. Telling a WHOLE county to evacuate during a fire is beyond...silly...
