Miramar Nuke?
(Scroll through the photos above)
By John Wiley
We've been watching progress on the Miramar construction, increasingly curious what's going into the Northeast corner (circled). Something with lots of heavily reinforced concrete, as if it's going to be a nuclear reactor core or UFO containment vessel. Does anyone know the story? Also, after Friday'sflare up near the Gibraltar hairpin turn I recalled seeing lots of smoke in that area during our Wednesday flight past there. Can you make out where the smoke's coming from in this slightly enhanced aerial view up past the Tea Garden with Tangerine Falls to the right?

Dec 31, 2017 08:12 PMFlicka, I'm relieved to read that you weren't living there and nobody was home to witness the tragedy. Seems like quite a suspicious fire in terms of real estate, but maybe just opportunistic squatters? Easy to see why the mystery makes it a more difficult memory! A-15, I'm noticing quite a few comments of different flavors (some I find distasteful), so maybe that's an ID used by Edhat for all non-subscribers? Anyway, in reference to what I'll presume was a sincere question: No. Not seriously. Playfully, easily identified as such by the word "as" left out in your quote of the original post where it reads "as if..." Hope your 2018 is happy. :)

Dec 31, 2017 08:36 PMAs far as I can tell, post ID numbers no longer work. I thought the last 3-4 numbers would change in a chrono order, but I can't make any sense of them since this new format came online. Wish Ed would address this. I don't check this site as often as I used to.

Dec 31, 2017 04:05 PMJohn Wiley, Only my grandpa was still living on the family compound when it burned (1967); he was back east when the big house he lived in burned. It was traumatic for all of us. Always 3 generations living there since 1907. One of the worst parts is never knowing who did it.

Dec 31, 2017 02:24 PMToo bad it's NOT a nuclear reactor. We could certainly do with new nuke and de-sal plants here in power-hungry, thirsty La-La Land.

Dec 31, 2017 01:57 PMWhere are the little blue cottages with the striking blue roofs? Now it's just another shopping center with a hotel. Too bad 'Beany Baby' didn't finish the project. He does everything really tastefully. Check out he Biltmore, Coral Casino, and San Jesedro (sp) Ranch. Just beautiful.

Dec 31, 2017 12:06 PMFlicka, that must be such a traumatic memory for you! Did this happen in your youth while the family was living there? A-15, I've wondered about the power lines too, seeing so many now standing amid total destruction up in our hills. Somehow SCE seems to have maintained steady power, at least here on the West edge of town but maybe still problems elsewhere? Matt, thanks for solving this puzzle for us. I thought when it was a deep dig full of water at first it might be storm drainage related, but the new heavy concrete work had me stumped.

Dec 31, 2017 11:22 AMThat sewer pump station is on property where I grew up, my mom was raised there too. Someone (never knew who) burned our 2 houses, a big barn, and a stable, all a month apart, so we sold the land to the Miramar.

Dec 31, 2017 09:36 AMTorture chamber for the higher end guests - Miramar will draw victims from the endless supply of vagrants found around Milpas street. It's the era of Trump - get used to it!

Dec 31, 2017 05:28 PMYes, let's move away from hateful thinking: Impeach Trump and ostracize his supporters.

Dec 31, 2017 01:49 PMWell, that is quite a hateful thing to say. Just because you disagree with a person's Political views does not mean you should resort to calling the person a torturer or someone who wants to torture people. Let’s all resolve in the new year to move away from hateful thinking and comments.

Dec 30, 2017 06:26 PMJohn, thanks for the interesting photos. Do you (or anyone) know when the SCE repairs to transmission lines will impact our power service?
