Military Working Dog Kiru has retired after seven years of protecting and serving at Vandenberg Space Force Base, officials announced.

Kiru will spend retirement with his former handler, Staff Sgt. Cassidy Hunt, a 30th Security Forces Squadron Military Working Dog trainer.

During a distinguished career, Kiru supported 17 United States Secret Service missions, providing security for the President and Vice President of the United States, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and visiting foreign dignitaries. He also deployed to Djibouti in support of Operation Enduring Freedom – Horn of Africa.

Base officials thanked Kiru for his contributions to installation and national security. “Thank you for your service, Kiru—enjoy your retirement,” the base said in its announcement.
