A middle-aged woman was found unresponsive on the sand near 600 E. Cabrillo Blvd. late Saturday afternoon, prompting a death investigation by the Santa Barbara Police Department.
Police, fire, and paramedics were dispatched around 5:15 p.m. on May 9 after reports of an unresponsive individual on the beach, according to an SBPD news release.
Responders located the woman on the sand; she showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, police said.
Edhat readers reported a large police presence along the East Beach bike and walking path and adjacent grass, describing what “appears to be a crime scene,” with “four PD vehicles on the Cabrillo bike path blocking a beach area with yellow tape.”
No additional details were immediately available.
