Mesa Crane?

By John Wiley
Does anyone know the story about this remarkably tall crane John Wiley saw up on the Mesa at Santa Monica Way off Oliver Road on Friday? It's towering far above and apparently unrelated to the homes there, so presumably related to the white truck with cherry picker at the curve and the one partly hidden behind the tree to the left. Maybe quite a surprise to residents who saw it in the middle of their street.

Sep 04, 2017 11:46 AMThanks! I'd been so curious what needs such a tall crane. I guess so they can reach across homes rather than using a helicopter or finding some way to access back yards with heavy equipment. Still pretty disruptive for residents, but they're presumably happy to avoid a pole coming down in a storm. I wonder what sort of sensors or methods they use to ensure the crane doesn't tip on a long reach. Must be a fascinating process to watch - at least when the first pole in a neighborhood is replaced.
