Meow-loween Adoption Special

Who needs tricks or treats when you can adopt a cat or kitten?! The Animal Shelter Assistance Program (ASAP) is currently packed to the brim with a wonderful variety cats waiting for their forever home, and they want to meet YOU. With our shelter bursting at the seams from the summer onslaught of adult cats and kittens, ASAP is lowering all adoption fees to ONLY $10 for adult cats with black and/or orange fur for FOUR SPECIAL DAYS (October 31 through November 3). PLUS kittens are two for just $50! As we move into the cooler fall season, now is the perfect opportunity to bring a new feline family member into your home and keep them (and you!) warm, safe, and happy.

There is a perception that adopting black cats around Halloween is dangerous for their safety, but is there any truth to this? According to experts at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Humane Society of the United States, Best Friends Animal Society and many others, the answer is a resounding “no.”

In 2007 National Geographic published an article titled “Ritual Cat Sacrifices a Halloween Myth, Experts Say.” The author found “no confirmed statistics, court cases, or studies to support the idea that serious satanic cult crime even exists.” Plus, the Humane Society of the United States has found no correlation between Halloween and animal abuse, with no increase in cruelty cases around this holiday—the conclusion being that black cats are at no greater risk of abuse at Halloween than at any other time of year.

So instead of being afraid of the big, black cat, how about giving one a home this Halloween? Or skip the pumpkin patch this year and come out to ASAP and pick your very own orange feline “treat”, which is guaranteed to be easier on your teeth and waistline than traditional sweets! All adoptable cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Cats five (5) months and older are considered “adult”. Orange and black fur basically means nearly every cat in our shelter!
