I haven't seen this reported anywhere else yet but there was a mental health emergency response to the Micheltorena Bridge last night (Monday).

Around 9:45 p.m., police responded to the Westside for a report of a man standing on the bridge/highway overpass, threatening to jump to the freeway below.

Traffic was stopped by CHP for a short time under the bridge and medics were on the scene.

It's unclear what exactly happened but the man survived. It sounded like he may have fallen off the bridge and only fell a short distance before cops were able to access him.

Anyway, wanted to report this since I haven't seen it anywhere and hope everyone knows if they're feeling this way to seek help, life is beautiful.

It was sometime my sister was going to do the same thing around 1999 on the Micheltorena Bridge . She had gone through a lot throughout the years of her life. Her first child, her son apparently took his life that same year at the age of 19. Plus my sister was a severe alcoholic and battled severe depression to the point she never wanted to get the help. She passed away last year in March or April due to alcoholism at the age of 57.

If you know someone fighting depression or addiction, ask how they’re doing and listen for a bit. It will likely make their day and be a light in the darkness.

I hate hearing about public suicides because I have OCD and depression and then when I drive past those spots I see it... even years later for people I don't know. If I hear about it I have it in my memory banks.

Yeah, I guess that was a strange word to use. I just meant the people who organized to fight for the fence installation. They had good intentions but the publicity had unfortunate side effects.

You didn't see it reported because research shows suicides and suicide attempts can be "contagious" when reported in the media. Local example: suicides off of Cold Spring Bridge on 154 skyrocketed after activist groups brought attention to the site as a suicide destination, prior to the installation of the fence.
