A friend mentioned that there were famous and soon to be famous musicians playing at the Earl Warren Showgrounds for concerts in the 60s and 70s.
Does anyone remember who played there then?

SBsurferlife, great link! The entry for the 1967 Buffalo Springfield concert was super interesting. Coincidentally, I just visited a retirement community where Nurit Wilde lives (she’s the photographer/model who lived in Laurel Canyon in the 60s with all the famous musicians who hung out there). She has on display black & white photos of Buffalo Springfield and Neil Young dated 1967! Also photos of Jim Morrison, Jackson Browne, Frank Zappa, etc.
The linked poster for the 1967 Earl Warren show indicates it was presented by Jim Salzer (Salzer’s Records in Ventura). Looks like he passed on recently and some of his memorabilia are on Ebay, including a copy of that poster.

This is a bit of a longshot but does anyone know about or possibly attended an Eddie Cochran concert in Santa Barbara in February 1959? If so, was it at Earn Warren or was that venue even open in the late 50s? I saw the video below a couple months ago. It’s from February 7, 1959 and at about the 1:50 mark, he mentions that he’s playing Santa Barbara the following week. I’ve always wondered where this took place in SB.

We saw Janis Joplin. The opening band was Sweetwater. They were the first band at Woodstock. I think the tickets were $6.00.
mattinsb – I couldn’t find any info that Eddie Cochran played in Santa Barbara. One website of tour schedules for 1959 states he played in El Cajon on February 6, 1959. The Town Hall Party clip was filmed live the next day at KTTV in LA at 10:00pm and 11:00pm.
Eddie Cochran and His Summertime Blues Band did play in Santa Maria on Friday night, August 7, 1959 at the Veterans Memorial Building.
It is possible he played here, but f so, it wasn’t carried in any of the local papers either as an advertisement or a news item.
Thanks El Barbareno.
Check out this Blog. he has listed many of the shows at Earl Warren
