What a March Edness game it was this year! Two tie-breakers were needed to finalize our top three winners. At midnight we posted 5 photos and asked our top 4 players to identify the locations in each photo. The players in their respective tie-breaker who got the most photos correct win! If there ended up being the same number of correct photos, then the player who submitted their total guesses first would be the winner. Everyone had until 8:00 p.m. on Monday to submit their guesses.

Below are the answers:

Answer 1: The Alice F. Schott Continuing Education Center at 310 W. Padre Street.

I am curious how the top scorers happen to know so much. Obviously they are observant and have good memories. But do you work as delivery people, or what? What gets you around and about so thoroughly? Just curious.

March Edness 2018: Winners Announced!

For me, it's mostly googling things: for example, the train station in Santa Barbara that was the photo for Day 9. It had a "1905" on it, and my first thought was that it might be a date. So I searchded, "since 1905 Santa Barbara" and sure enough, about 10 images down was a photo of the train station with a description of where it was. Another example is the Union Hotel. I haven't even ever been to Los Alamos, but could see the -ON and -L in the sign. I tried to think of words that ended in L that would be famous buildings in the area and came up with hotel. So then I searched "1880 hotel santa barbara" and the Union Hotel came up. I assumed the -80 in the photo was 1880 and not 1980 since the sign looked pretty old. Then, of course, googling can only get you so far, and once I missed some of those later days I knew I would never catch up. Congrats to the winners.

March Edness 2018: Winners Announced!

Dear AHCHOOO: I can only speak for myself, but it is a combination of luck and skill. I really do notice things all year long and think: "that would be a good thing for March Edness..." Then there is the element of playing with team mates who also know where things are. And then the not so secret tactic is knowing how to search on the web for things. It is not easy! It helps to have a lot of free time, and to be obsessed, I mean dedicated to winning!
